A short while ago, we made a small business guide to social media to give you an overview of the most popular channels and how you can use them for your business.

Now you know the basics, the BookingBug team are going to give you some top tips so that you can advertise effectively, starting with Instagram!

Instagram is an app that allows users to share, like and comment on photos, which is brilliant for friends – but it’s also a great opportunity for businesses. You get to show a personable side to your brand, one which customers can interact with. We’re very proud of our BookingBug HQ and team and love to show it off, so Instagram is the perfect place to do that…

Tip 1 – Integrate
There are millions of active users across all of the main social media channels – use Instagram to reach out to them immediately:
  • Link your Instagram account to your other social media posts.
  • Select where you want your photo to be posted to by clicking on the icons.
  • Share!

It’s a quick and easy way to share your content.

Tip 2 – Interact

Your customers follow you on your social media because they want to keep in the loop, but they also want to communicate with you:

  • Reposting photos is a great way to interact and there are apps dedicated to ‘regramming’, so you can show your customers a bit of appreciation in seconds.
  • Share the love; comment on and like your customer’s photos.

Tip 3 – #Hashtag

The hashtag is a great marketing tool for involving your customers, monitoring your brand and getting photos noticed beyond your followers:

  • Tap into trending tags like #throwbackthursday for something new on your page.
  • Create your own hashtag – we use #bookingbug.
  • Hashtag whatever you find relevant but don’t go too crazy, it may distract from the original message of your post.

Tip 4 – Get Tactical

Don’t be afraid to use a little strategy to engage with your customers, there are subtle ways you can increase the amount of likes, comments and shares you receive on your posts…

  • Ask questions so that your customers will respond.
  • Start a ‘share’ competition – your followers repost your picture for the chance to win a prize.
  • Use your hashtag to monitor your brand – view photos that have mentioned your business and even like, comment or share them.

Tip 5 – Be Yourself!

You can show your customers the human side to your business by using backstage photos and quirky captions – Instagram is a great way of becoming accessible to your clients.

To build a strong Instagram profile, we recommend using a mix of posts:

  • Showcase your product or service by posting relevant pictures to what you’re selling.
  • Introduce your team with a picture and a fun fact so your customers know who they’re talking to.
  • Go behind the scenes and invite your followers to take a look at your office and the antics that take place there.
